URGE YOUR ASSEMBLY REPRESENTATIVES TO VOTE YES AND REJECT THE LIQUOR LOBBY AND SIDE WITH NJ'S WINERIES AND CONSUMERS
UnCorkNJ thanks Assembly Speaker Shelia Oliver for posting S-3172/A-4436 for a full Assembly vote on Monday, January 9. Because of all of your efforts, we are close to victory. S-3172/A-4436, sponsored by Senate President Steve Sweeney, Assemblyman John Burzichelli, Deputy Speaker John Wisniewski, Assemblywoman Celeste Riley and Assemblyman Ron Dancer, preserves the retail wine outlets operated by NJ's wineries and changes NJ's law to provide direct shipping of wine from small wineries to NJ residents.
UnCorkNJ applauds Assemblyman Ron Dancer for his support of our effort by signing on as a co-sponsor of this important consumer legislation. The state's liquor lobby continues its campaign of false and misleading claims about the impact of direct shipping, and is mounting a last ditch attempt to defeat the bill. Similar efforts by the liquor lobby in 38 states were totally rejected by state legislatures, who sided with their wine industry and consumers to allow for direct shipping.
S-3172/A-4436 provides the Legislature with an opportunity to enhance New Jersey's image around the nation, and further establishes the Garden State as a major producer of quality wines. This important legislation will ensure the future of the NJ wine industry, stimulate agri-tourism, preserve farmland, create jobs and bring additional tax and fee revenue to the state.
It is now more important than ever that you reach out to your Assembly representatives and urge them to vote yes on S-3172/A-4436. UnCorkNJ is calling on all of its thousands of supporters to take action again today. We only have two days to communicate with Assembly members about the need for this legislation. The public's voice must be heard louder than ever before!
We thank you for your past support and encourage you to take action now, and to spread the word to other wine consumers and ask them to join the effort.
